Life in Kyrenia is based around its elegant Venetian harbour, a graceful curve of impressive wall that starts at the castle and sweeps round, holding fishing boats and yachts in its safe waters. The harbour side is lined with cafes and restaurants housed in converted carob warehouses, and makes an ideal spot for a light lunch or Turkish coffee during the day. At night the harbour comes alive with twinkling lights and the sound of laughter, as the Turkish Cypriots come to meet, eat and enjoy the many bars that lie just behind the harbour area.

Beyond the harbour, you can wander along narrow streets that wind up towards the central market, each lined with fascinating shops just waiting to be explored. To top up your tan, simply head for the beautiful golden beaches within easy drive of Kyrenia centre. Or, to cool off, head inland to the Kyrenia Mountains and the famous St Hilarion Castle.
